Cover Work Continued

I felt like my cover needed something to look more like a professional cover than it did.

Here’s what it looked like after my first round of experiments:

This is what I came up with after some more tinkering:

What do you think of my changes? Should I keep them?

I still think the changes make it look way to busy and detracts from the original artwork. What do the couple who did the original artwork think? I like the runes, kind of in the background, but the squiggles can still go away.

  2. I agree with Karon, the first is classier. If you really want the extra art, I’d suggest just having them on the back.

  3. In theory– and without the extra symbols– I do like the second one. However, maybe a little less worked, as with the extra hoopla it makes it teeter closer to appearing as a children’s book… I like the first one just fine, personally 🙂

  5. My concern would be how it looks on a smaller device like an e-reader or iPod touch, for example. Would the image details be lost on a smaller or e-ink screen or “muddy up” the image?

    • My thumbnails on my PC look fine. I’m working on a partially-embellished look that I really like. I’ll post the one my Think Tank likes the best.

  6. I know this reply is late. I was out of the country and have just returned. I just wanted to add that for your “print” book cover (with the back and the bar code), you’ll need to have the book’s title and your name on the spine of the book. I like the embellishments, but I think that they would make the spine hard to read. Maybe you could just add the embellishments on the back and/or on the upper right corner of the front? I hope this helps!

    • That’s a good point. I’m pretty sure that with CreateSpace there isn’t even an option to put designs on the spine. I’ll have to choose a complimentary color and take whatever font and configuration they put there.
