Amputeddy in Norwegian!

Amputeddy is now available in Norwegian thanks to Camilla Mehammer Augestad! She contacted me earlier in the year asking about the translation of the book. After a little conversation, she generously offered to translate. There were some personal hurdles for me and formatting issues with new Amazon requirements before getting the books available in print, but I finally managed to get the first one up this week. Two of the translated books are currently available on Smashwords (the third one is pending) and all will soon be available on Kindle too.

Here is a message from Camilla:

Hei.

Eg heiter Camilla Mehammer Augestad.

Tusen takk Kate, for at eg fekk oversetje bøkene!

in English

Hi!

My name is Camilla Mehammer Augestad.

I come from Kvinnherad, a small place in Norway.

In January 2022, we found out that my husband had to amputate his left leg after 21 years of pain. We had very mixed feelings about this ourselves, and our girl of 6 years took this very badly. We then decided to look for child-friendly information and children’s books that could give her a little comfort and more understanding about what was going to happen. We found nothing about this topic for children in Norwegian.

After much googling, I finally found the Amputeddy books. Cozy, easy-to-read books by Kate Policani and Jean Boelter. I contacted Kate and was allowed to translate the books into Norwegian.

The books can be ordered in book form, for a fee or you can download them and print them for free!

Our girls have become very fond of these nice books. I hope that many can benefit from them in the same way that we have.

Thank you very much, Kate, for allowing me to translate the books.

A Dose of Success With Short Stories!

At the end of August I sent in a short story to the magazine, Daily Science Fiction, and got this awesome email today!

“Kate,

We have good news and we have bad news. The good news is that your story has made our second round, rarified company that more than 90% of submissions do not reach. While half or more of our second round stories will not ultimately see publication under the DSF rocket, this story has reached the final go/no-go before launch.

The bad news–and I promised you some bad news–is that it will take us time to make that final decision. Expect an additional two weeks or so, but don’t be surprised if it’s a month from today. Thanks for your continued patience, and thanks for sending us this worthy submission.

– Daily Science Fiction Staff”

I am so excited just to get a little positive response!

Lessons Learned from Broken Characters

The final book for the Awesome Indies Discovery!

Laurie Boris

file5721279006391I’m a bit different from some authors. Instead of outlining and building a character from scratch, I let one fall into my head. I follow him or her around as we find the story together. So sometimes (oh, who am I kidding; it happens nearly all the time) I get to work with characters who are a little broken, a little damaged, or who don’t always make the choices I want them to.

This means I often hear the same comment from my early readers: I wanted to SLAP her!

Awesome Indies Discovery: Waterspell, a Fantasy by Deborah J. Lightfoot

The next book in the Discovery:

WATERSPELL

The Awesome Indies Discovery begins today and runs through December 14. Featured are eight simply awesome writers whose books have met high standards of quality and been approved for the Awesome Indies lists. I am pleased and proud to be in such distinguished company. Now here is my contribution to the tour. I’m also giving away review copies of the complete Waterspell trilogy.

Magic, mystery, murder, and romance …
The Waterspell Trilogy:
An intricate save-the-world fantasy adventure with complex characters, cosmic calamities, and the gothic sensibilities of Jane Eyre

~~~~~
I wrote much of Waterspell while living in the tropics in a house that was open to the breezes of soft summer nights. Often I worked late, gripped by a writer’s high, my fingers flying over the keyboard while the world slept. Vaguely I would catch the hoots of owls and the fragrances of…
